Falling film evaporators provide very short residence time inside the evaporator, ensuring efficient heat transfer thanks to their design advantages. In operation, the liquid is pumped to the top of the heat exchanger and evenly distributed over the heat transfer area along the tubes. To maintain proper evaporation dynamics, the heat transfer surface must be adequately wetted. Inadequate flow balance caused by low flow inside the tubes or improper distribution can result in dry spots and fouling. Falling film evaporators are among the most cost-effective evaporation systems used today and offer very high heat transfer coefficients. However, unlike forced circulation evaporators, they tend to have a higher fouling tendency, which may reduce their efficiency in certain applications.

Advantages:

  • High heat transfer coefficient
  • Low residence time
  • Flexible operation
  • High condensate quality
